A "Royal" before hosting its first Open, Birkdale is both a beauty and a beast. #ginellasjourneys
This little guy is up and betting all ten toes on @rickiefowler to win @theopen.
Updated the link in my bio to my latest Journey sampling the memorable golf along the tracks of England's "Golf Coast." From Hall Road to Southport, West Lancs to Hesketh (and a home base of Liverpool), you're never going to need more than a few train tickets and a trusty set of soft spikes to experience one of the ultimate bucket-list trips for buddies and couples. #ginellasjourneys 🚂⛳️🏌🏻
From Hall Road to Southport, the "Golf Coast" of England offers an ultimate golf trip by way of nothing but the train. Links Along The Line is a great book by Harry Foster, but after rounds at West Lancs, Hillside, Formby and Royal Birkdale, I can promise you it's a much better reality. For the complete story and prices for the itinerary, please click the link in my bio. #ginellasjourneys
The seventh at @ballyliffingc, host of the 2018 @ddfirishopen. #ginellasjourneys
The gritty little ninth at County Sligo G.C., a Harry Colt original with a Pat Ruddy modern remix. Sligo is home of the West of Ireland Championship, which was won by McIlroy (twice), Harrington (once), Lowry (once) and the great J.B. Carr 12 times! (His son Roddy also got a title.) #ginellasjourneys
Just a couple of Irish Wolfhounds going for a paddle at Ashford Castle. Cronan and Garvan are brothers in arms (3 years old) as they meet and greet guests every morning at 10am. 🐺🏰 #ginellasjourneys (Lots more in the Insta story.)
They don't come much better than Antoine O'Looney of Lahinch. The first to paddle the English Channel ('90), he took me for a "splish splash" before we headed out to Galway. Lots more in an upcoming #ginellasjourneys on @gcmorningdrive.
Lahinch is a special place, especially on a night like tonight. From Old Tom to Dr. Alister Mackenzie and on to Martin Hawtree, there's 125 years of golf history and architecture in these dunes. If you make the trek to play golf in Ireland, and don't include Lahinch, you're making a big mistake. More on my Insta story and on an upcoming @gcmorningdrive. #ginellasjourneys
On approach to Shannon, Ireland...where some see cloudy skies, I see Heaven. ⛳️🏌🏻☘️#ginellasjourneys
Can't say enough about my week at @travelerschamp. In addition to a stacked field (see Rory on 18th tee), and Jordan's dramatic win, it's all you could ask for in terms of a fan experience. Quite possibly the best seat on Tour is behind the 15th green at @tpcriverhighlands, where you see intimate action on the four finishing holes. #ginellasjourneys
The 486-yard 16th at Bayonne in New Jersey. A special course, a great clubhouse and an impressive flag. Why did developer and designer Eric Bergstol make the flag so big? He wanted all the ships coming into the NYC harbor to know that they were now in the United States of America. #ModernDream18
The 18th at Ferry Point. Having driven by it for almost a decade of start/stop development, it was good to finally see the finished product. #ModernDream18
The 192-yard fifth at The Bridge in Southampton, NY. Saw the course when it first opened and holes were good, but repetitive. Lots of changes over the years, all for the better. #ModernDream18
Atlantic Golf Club in Bridgehampton, NY might be some of Rees Jones' best work. #ModernDream18
Sebonack's finish...Just one of many memorable sights during #ModernDream18. More to come...
One of the many benefits of @mga1897's #ModernDream18 was this view. Lots more in my Insta Story. LOTS. And more on an upcoming @gcmorningdrive. #ginellasjourneys
More turf maintenance at halftime of @orlandocitysc (2-1). #neverhuntalone
Surprised by these results? I am. Also encouraged. Love the variety. And certainly appreciate an accessible venue.
Watching the @usopengolf and it's possible Baby Bandon has had too much to drink. 🥛🇺🇸🏌🏻 #beenthere
Taking the @usopengolf Fan Zone to the next level...thanks for the lift, Chip. (More tomorrow on @gcmorningdrive.)
Doing Game Day at the @usopengolf like...
Range prep on Game Day...Y'all ready for this?! (Wait for it.) @gcmorningdrive
Best seat in the house? I'd spend time watching the action at the ninth green. And I'd make sure I could see the action to viewer's left, where a lot of balls will roll to die.
A businessman, 103 bunkers and an improbable dream. A benched architect, a murder and a savior. For the brief but layered and complicated history of Erin Hills, host of this week's U.S. Open, please click the link in my bio. (Produced by the great @adriennekgal.)
